Coaching flag football is not about Xs and Os. It is about the quiet kid who finally catches a pass and looks at you like they just conquered the world. It is about the athlete who was afraid to pull a flag and now cannot wait for game night. It is about building something real in your own community because it matters to you.

The first time your team wins a game and the kids lose their minds, you will know it was worth it. The parents cheering. The athletes screaming. And you, standing there knowing you helped make that happen. There is nothing quite like it.

If you grew up watching football, this is your chance to be part of it. Calling plays, drawing up formations, watching your team execute a drive you designed together. And yes, it is just as exciting as it sounds.

What Coaches Do

Coaches lead their flag football team on game nights at South Courtice Arena in Courtice, Ontario. The core commitment is one Tuesday evening per week for games. You are on the field, in the action, calling plays, and building something real with your athletes.

Do I Need Experience?

No. Many of our best coaches are parents who love the game and love working with athletes. You do not need a coaching resume. You need a love for the game and a willingness to show up for kids. If you are enthusiastic and reliable, we want to hear from you.

Every flag football coach in this league is supported from day one. We provide the official NFL FLAG coaching guide, access to play diagrams and drill libraries, and direct support from our league directors. Our league directors are flag football coaches too and will be with you every step of the way. We ask you to show up and care. The rest, we will figure out together.

What We Expect From Every Coach

Clarington Flag Football is a sanctioned member league operating under Football Ontario and Football Canada standards. The families who register their athlete trust that every coach on that field has been vetted, trained, and held to the highest standard. Here is what that looks like for our coaching staff.

• Vulnerable Sector CheckEvery coach completes a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) through Durham Region Police before the season begins. This is a mandatory requirement for all adults working with children in our league.
• NCCP Coaching CertificationsAll coaches complete four mandatory certifications through coach.ca as part of our nationally recognized coaching program: Making Headway (concussion awareness), Safe Sport Training, Safe Contact, and Community Sport (NCCP). New coaches are given a grace period to complete these certifications, but all must be completed before the end of their first season.
• Football Ontario MembershipAll coaches maintain an active Football Ontario membership for the duration of the season. This ensures our league operates as a fully sanctioned member organization.
• Rule of TwoNo coach is ever alone with an athlete. All interactions are open, observable, and in the presence of another adult. This is a non-negotiable standard in our league. If you ever see something that is different from the Rule of Two, please immediately contact either one of the directors, commissioners, game day operators, on-site paramedic, referees, or another coach.
• Code of ConductEvery coach agrees to uphold the standards set by Football Ontario and Football Canada, including zero tolerance for harassment, discrimination, and any behaviour that puts an athlete at risk.
• Duty to ReportAll volunteers in this league have a legal obligation to report known or suspected child abuse to the appropriate authorities.
• Concussion AwarenessCoaches are trained on concussion recognition and removal-from-play protocols in accordance with Rowan's Law. If a player shows signs of a concussion, they are removed from play immediately and cannot return without medical clearance.
