League History of Clarington Flag Football
From 4 teams on a Bowmanville field to an official NFL FLAG affiliated league and Football Ontario member. Here is how Clarington Flag Football got started and where it is going.

Meet the Owners
As of July 1, 2026, Clarington Flag Football is shepherded by Kyle and Cody. Two brothers from Clarington who love football, love this community, and are committed to building something great for every athlete who steps onto that field.
From football fan to football coach to football champion. I was honoured to be asked to coach my son's first season in flag football, and as soon as I stepped on that field I knew I was hooked. From getting to see my son play to coaching other athletes just like him, this league means everything. I am proud to help lead it into its next chapter.
I grew up watching football my whole life and I know firsthand the positive impact it can have on a young athlete. Watching my nephew play flag football became one of the best parts of my week. As a soon-to-be dad, it is important to me that I help create an incredible community for my future daughter to thrive in. Every kid who steps on that field deserves that same experience.
Where It Started
For The Love Of Football
Clarington Flag Football started the way most great things do, with a small group of people who wanted something better for their community. In the fall of 2024, the league launched with just 4 teams on a single U13 division, playing at Clarington Fields #3 in Bowmanville. It was grassroots, it was scrappy, and it worked.
The demand was there from the start. Parents wanted a safe, structured, and fun football experience for their athletes. Flag football delivers exactly that with all the skills and strategy of the game, none of the contact, and no equipment costs.
By the time the championship game arrived on October 27, 2024, the league had already outgrown Bowmanville. With the help of the City of Clarington, the championship was played at South Courtice Arena on the artificial turf. That game marked a turning point. The Buffalo Bills won the inaugural championship and a permanent home was found. Every season since has been played under the bright lights of that same turf field.

The Timeline
It's Just The Beginning
The inaugural season launched September 15, 2024 with a single U13 division at Clarington Fields #3 in Bowmanville. Four teams competed across 6 regular-season weeks. The championship game on October 27, 2024 was moved to South Courtice Arena artificial turf field, marking the league's permanent new home. The Buffalo Bills won the inaugural championship, defeating the Minnesota Vikings 28–20.
First Full Season at South Courtice Arena
The first full season on the South Courtice Arena artificial turf field. Six teams competed from May 15 to June 24, 2025 in a single division. The Philadelphia Eagles were dominant all season and won the championship on June 24, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 27–21.
Official NFL FLAG Affiliation
Clarington Flag Football was approved as an official NFL FLAG affiliated league. This connects our players to the largest youth flag football organization in the world and brings NFL-standard programming, resources, and branding to Clarington.
Two Divisions, Two Champions
Fall 2025 was the biggest season yet. Eight teams across two divisions. U11 and U17 teams competed at South Courtice Arena from September 9 to October 21, 2025. A rain delay on October 7 led to a double-header makeup on October 14. The Pittsburgh Steelers won the U11 championship, defeating the Dallas Cowboys 21–14. The Buffalo Bills won the U17 championship, defeating the Seattle Seahawks 36–24.
Football Ontario Membership
Before the start of Spring 2026, Clarington Flag Football joined Football Ontario as an official member organization. Membership means our players are covered under provincial insurance, our coaches operate under certified standards, and our league is part of the broader football community in Ontario.
Champions At Last.
Another incredible Spring season. This was the most fans we have ever seen coming each week to watch their favourite athletes in the U11 and U15 divisions at South Courtice Arena. The Colts won the U15 championship. While the Lions of Detroit claimed the U11 title and gave Coach Kyle his first championship title.
New Commissioners Take the Helm
As of July 1, 2026, Clarington Flag Football enters a new chapter under the leadership of Kyle and Cody. Two Clarington locals with deep roots in the league, a love for the game, and a shared commitment to building the best youth flag football experience in Durham Region. The foundation is strong. The future is bright.
